The imagery for Beaucatcher Mountain was inspired by its history of human alteration in Asheville, NC. A tunnel was drilled through it, and a section called “the cut” was blown out for Interstate 240, disconnecting it from the surrounding range. Elisa Faires and I coined “phantom ridge” to describe how the loss felt like phantom pain, akin to losing a limb. The imagery combines organic textures with concrete, metal, and rust, illustrating the encroachment of the city and the perception of human dominance over nature.

This art was created for "The Drone Choir," a group led by artist and musician Elisa Faires, which performed in the Beaucatcher Tunnel.
